led the ceremony on the Day of the Peruvian Armed Forces, which was held at Plaza de la Bandera (Flag Roundabout) in Lima on Friday.
The event began at 11:00 a.m. (local time) with the rendering of honors upon the arrival of the Head of State in the area.
Afterwards, the National Anthem was sung, a liturgical event took place, and a wreath was placed at the site.
The closing speech was delivered by President Castillo.
It also saw the presence of high-ranking officers from the Peruvian Army, Navy, Air Force, National Police, among other civil and military authorities.
The Day of the Peruvian Armed Forces is celebrated on September 24 every year. It was instituted via Supreme Decree No. 003-77-CCFFAA published on January 10, 1977.
This date of celebration coincides with the consecration of the Virgin of Mercy —Patroness of the Armed Institutes and Grand Patroness of Peru. She was proclaimed Saint Patroness of the Armed and Police Forces in 1823 by the Constituent Congress presided over by Francisco Javier Luna Pizarro. In 1921, she received the title of Grand Patroness of Peru.
The Armed Forces are made up of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. They are responsible for complying with the objectives of the National Defense Policy. To do so, they plan, prepare, and coordinate the direction and conduct of joint military operations.
The President of the Republic is the Supreme Chief of the Armed Forces.
