Peru President: Investment in Chiclayo airport to improve connectivity

10:53 | Chiclayo (Lambayeque region), Feb. 19.

President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday stressed the investment —worth over US$43 million— in the first stage of Chiclayo Airport modernization aimed at improving the region's connectivity, tourism, and trade operations.

According to the Head of State, this first phase involves the modernization of the runway, as well as its beacons system, and the perimeter fence.

Likewise, he pointed out Chiclayo Airport welcomes around 600,000 passengers every year, and the number of travelers is projected to increase to 1.2 million by 2021.

Furthermore, the top official mentioned achieving connectivity across the whole Inca country is a priority for his administration. Thus, it currently invests in improving the infrastructure in diverse air, land, and maritime terminals

In this sense, if Jorge Chavez Airport can be connected to other modern and well-structured regional airports, then tourist, trade, and economic destinations will increase in Peru, which will benefit the population.

On the other hand, the statesman indicated it is necessary to connect Chiclayo with Piura through a two-lane highway. Plus, the Head of State expressed he is confident the studies for road construction from Lima to the border with Ecuador will be finished this year.

Lastly, President Vizcarra reaffirmed his administration's total willingness to work with Chiclayo's regional and local authorities, so this area of the country can see progress.

Remarks were made during the modernization works inauguration of this air terminal.
