The
on Tuesday inaugurated the Southern Volcanological Observatory facilities in Sachaca district, Arequipa.
The objective of this project is to alert the population of Peru's southern regions —mainly those that reside in areas of high volcanic risk about the possible occurrence of volcanic eruptions, based on the technical-scientific analysis of seismic, geodetic, and geochemical images that will be transmitted in real time through said observatory.
The project includes the construction of the observatory and the installation of geophysical instruments in 12 volcanoes located in regions, such as Ayacucho, Arequipa, Moquegua, and Tacna.
After the inauguration, the Head of State toured the observatory facilities, where he received reports from specialists.
