Peruvian President Dina Boluarte held a phone conference with her Brazilian counterpart, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

Both Heads of State discussed the potential commercial opportunities that Peru-based megaprojects, such as the Chancay Megaport, represent to the neighboring nation.

Mrs. Boluarte thanked Brazil for its support in protecting Peruvian interests in Venezuela, after the breaking of diplomatic relations with that country.

As of August 5, 2024, in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, the Brazilian Government has assumed the protection of Peru's interests in Venezuela. This includes consular cooperation for Peruvian citizens in that country, along with the custody of Peruvian diplomatic premises, assets, and archives.

This diplomatic and consular representation by Brazil materializes following the acceptance by Venezuela's Government, as reported through an official communiqué released on that date, in accordance with the provisions of the aforementioned Conventions.

During the phone conference, the Peruvian Head of State was accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Javier Gonzalez-Olaechea at the Government Palace in Lima.
