Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Sunday highlighted the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru initiative to develop mechanical ventilators for
COVID-19 patients in the country.
"I must congratulate the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru which, together with private companies, have joined this great effort to manufacture high-tech equipment, essential to face this health emergency, an initiative similar to the Armed Forces' effort to develop mechanical ventilators used in serious COVID-19 cases," the President of the Republic stated.
According to the Head of State, the medical equipment will be validated to guarantee its proper functioning, and the necessary legal support will be given to start manufacturing these life-saving machines.
The top official noted that up to 10 mechanical ventilators can be manufactured per day.
"By doing so, we would partially solve the health sector's difficulties to combat the disease in seriously-ill patients and to improve our response capacity," he pointed out.
The proposal was put forth as an emergency mechanical ventilator, which involved adapting manual ventilators to get volume-controlled and automated ventilation that adapts to the patient's medical needs.
