The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Thursday underscored the support provided by the Peruvian Army for prevention works in the face of El Niño phenomenon in Peru.

"We have made a lot of progress in preventing the damage that the El Niño phenomenon may cause; we are the Government that has invested the most in prevention in the country's history, hand-in-hand with our glorious Army," Mrs. Boluarte expressed.

In that sense, the Head of State specified that rivers were cleaned up, riverside defenses were reinforced, and interventions were made on streams to reduce overflows and landslides.

"For the first time, we rely on technology, machinery, and equipment to help our population recover swiftly, in case it is affected by the onslaught of nature, and we are going to continue with this effort," she affirmed.

Likewise, the top official announced that more than S/8.6 billion (about US$2.274 billion) will be allocated next year, with the purpose of strengthening the capabilities of our Armed Forces.

"Investing in your infrastructure, equipment and vehicles, this is a long-term career where professionalism and leadership are required," Mrs. Boluarte stated.

"To all of you, follow the example of distinguished figures such as Colonel Francisco Bolognesi, Marshal Andres Avelino Caceres, and other compatriots who offered their lives in defense of our homeland's sacred interests," she added.

"You, young officers of the Peruvian Army, are named after Lieutenant Alejandro Acevedo Dulanto who immolated himself in the fulfillment of his mission to defend sovereignty," she expressed.

Moreover, Mrs. Boluarte underscored that the new officers must make themselves available to the nation in order to defend it courageously.
