Peru President: Govt to work with sectors their reincorporation into economic activity

12:40 | Lima, Apr. 2

The President of the Republic Martin Vizcarra on Thursday afternoon announced that —once the quarantine period comes to an end on April 12— the economic sectors will gradually rejoin their normal activities and —therefore— the Government will work closely with their representatives.

"It is a gradual process, which must be worked on a sectoral manner. Each productive sector will propose how it will rejoin its economic activities. We do not yet have a comprehensive project, as it is being prepared by each ministry of linked to the productive and health sectors," he told reporters.

The Head of State said that all the information will be processed, verified, and agreed upon with the opinions and recommendations of experts and specialists, so that the economic reactivation is carried out without harming the progress made so far in the fight against the coronavirus (COVID-19) spread.

"The announcements will be made with due anticipation. Surely, the sectors, which will be able to rejoin (the activities) in a first stage will be those that —due to their characteristics— have greater control of the contagion within the people who work in them," he stated.

Remarks were made in a televised press conference, within the framework of a mandatory social isolation imposed to prevent the COVID-19 from further spreading in the South American country.

On this occasion, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.

Thursday marks the eighteenth day of mandatory social isolation.
