Peru President: Arequipa's response to COVID-19 strengthened with 700 hospital beds

17:18 | Arequipa (Arequipa region), Jul. 19.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Sunday affirmed that Arequipa region's response to COVID-19 has been reinforced with 700 additional hospital beds.

"We are in Arequipa to assess the State's COVID-19 response capacity, the efforts made in recent days, which represent an important improvement with the implementation of a greater supply of hospital services," he said while supervising the start-up of Cerro Juli Temporary Isolation Center.

200 beds will be available at said provisional facility —implemented by the Authority for Reconstruction with Changes (ARCC)— as well as 200 at Honorio Delgado Hospital and 100 at Goyeneche Hospital.

Moreover, 100 are being built in Cerro Colorado, and another 100 will be set up in the Bar Association.

The Head of State emphasized that the commitment to the region is to optimize the available resources, as well as improve coordination for an adequate use of additional beds and medical equipment.

In this sense, Mr. Vizcarra pointed out that health interventions are effective when coordinated with local and regional authorities. Therefore, he urged authorities to join forces.
