Peru President announces mega housing project in Lima

11:17 | Lima, Jan. 23.

President Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday set in motion the construction of nearly 6,000 apartments that will be part of the housing complex Rimac Boulevard, which will include basic health, education, and transport services for the future residents in order to improve their quality of life.

In this sense, the Head of State indicated this mega-project requires an investment worth S/880 million (US$263 million).

"We will provide health and education services to this whole community. We will improve health centers and schools. The duty of institutions and authorities is to provide a better quality of life to all Peruvians," the top official expressed.

Likewise, this housing complex will include common spaces for sport and entertainment activities, among others.

Within this framework, the statesman pointed out "this is the most important project currently being carried out in Peru," since it will meet the needs of over 30,000 citizens.

"The State will help each family by assuming 30% of the apartment's cost," he added.

Out of the 5,984 homes, 800 have been reserved for the Army members, since said institution handed over the land for the construction of this project.

Furthermore, the infrastructure will enable the orderly development of the city, thanks to the contributions of the Armed Forces, private investment, the Housing, Construction and Sanitation Ministry, as well as of the Transport and Communications Ministry.

The works begin in the first half of 2019, and the delivery of the first stage is expected by the end of 2020. Execution time for the whole project is scheduled until 2025, and it will create approximately 1,800 jobs.
