Peru: Presidency congratulates Apurimac region on 151st anniversary

The Presidency of the Republic congratulated the region of Apurimac on its 151st anniversary of political creation on Sunday.

"Unique like the anise of Curahuasi and spiritual like the Deep Rivers of Tayta (Jose Maria) Arguedas. This is our Apurimac, land of Chanca warriors and pride of Peru, which today celebrates its 151st anniversary of political creation. Happy anniversary, Apurimac!" reads a post by the Presidency of the Republic on X.


Today, the activities marking Apurimac's anniversary began with a 21-gun salute, which was followed by a Te Deum mass, a flag parade, a raising of the national flag, and an institutional-police parade.

Apurimac Region Governor Percy Godoy underscored that the celebrations will be accompanied by the launch of public works across the region's seven provinces.

The region of Apurimac was created by law in 1873. It is made up of the provinces of Abancay, Andahuaylas, Antabamba, Aymaraes, Cotabambas, Grau, and Chincheros.
