The Peruvian National Police (PNP) on Friday reported that agents from the Huancayo-based Anti-Drug Department seized around 850 kilograms of calcium chloride —a controlled chemical input that had been destined for the production of cocaine.

This illegal cargo of calcium chloride was camouflaged under packages of noodles transported by a truck that left Lima heading to Tayacaja Province (Huancavelica region).

The intervention was carried out in Sapallanga district, and driver Abel Gavilán Taipe (23) was arrested for alleged illicit drug trafficking.

General Alejandro Oviedo, head of the Sixth Macro Police Region, reported that the product was intended for drug production in the Valley of the Apurimac, Ene and Mantaro Rivers (VRAEM).

He added that his department was alerted by the Anti-Drug Directorate of the Peruvian National Police (Dirandro).
