Peru: Police seize nearly half a ton of drugs, arrest suspected traffickers

17:00 | Sullana (Piura region), Sep. 1.

The Anti-Drug Police has dealt a heavy blow to drug trafficking in Sullana, northern Peru, by seizing nearly half a ton of drugs and arresting the alleged members of a drug trafficking gang when the suspects attempted to reach Ecuador with their illegal cargo.

It was indicated that the drug was being transported by a gang of traffickers called "Poseidon" that came from the Alto Huallaga area (San Martin region) seeking to circumvent the controls and reach the neighboring country.

Anti-Drug Directorate (Dirandro) agents managed —through an intelligence operation— to intercept the refrigerated truck that was on its way to Mancora district with the 480 kilograms of drugs that were in the form of bricks.

Alex Soria Trujillo, Manuel Garia Sifuentes, Fredy Reina Mori, Marco Ushiñahua, and Edwin Paranoia were captured during the operation.

The drug, as well as the seized vehicle, will be presented by the police high command as this operation constitutes a major blow to drug trafficking and the dismantling of a gang with international contacts.
