The National Police of Peru (PNP) has seized 600 kg of cocaine during an operation conducted in the village of Parijaro, located in the district of Rio Tambo of Satipo Province in Junin region.

The intervention was carried out by members of the PNP's Maneuver against Illegal Drug Trafficking Division —known as Los Sinchis de Mazamari— and the Special Operations Division (Scorpion).

The operation by the elite 'Dirandro' anti-drugs unit was headed by PNP Colonel Manuel Vidarte and led to the arrest of three people, including a minor.

The police officer affirmed that international organizations dedicated to drug trafficking are now seeking to recruit minors for the transport of drugs.

In Parijaro, the law enforcement officers found the warehouse where the drugs had been stored. Backpackers brought the drugs into this place before being taken to clandestine tracks in the lower part of the Urubamba River in the Otishi National Park.

During the operation, the anti-drug agents and the prosecutor assigned to the case found 39 green backpacks containing cocaine, whose weight and quantity are to be determined.

The agents also found a breech-loading shotgun with an illegible serial number, as well as cartridges.

The detainees were identified as Jefri Kenides Sanchez Marzano (22), Miguel Angel Duran Saume (25), and a 17-year-old.
