A total of 40 people, 32 men and eight women, were detained by the
Peruvian National Police (PNP) last night for their alleged participation in excesses and looting at Plaza Vea supermarket in the Andean city of Puno.
According to the
Ministry of Interior, the detainees were taken to the headquarters of the
Criminal Investigation Division (Divincri) in Puno, which opened an investigation for the alleged crime against public peace - riots, putting them at the disposal of the
Prosecutor's Office.
At the site, law enforcement agents recovered 29 shopping carts full of items, as well as 33 household appliances, including TVs and computers, which were about to be stolen by the detainees, who also caused various damages to the private property.
The police intervention occurred when the mob was committing excesses and stealing products from the supermarket in downtown Puno.
Meanwhile, all the recovered products were taken to Santa Rosa Police Station, in the city of Juliaca, in order to proceed with the corresponding procedures.
At this time, officers from different units and stations in Puno remain alert to intervene and counteract any illegal action against public and private properties perpetrated by unscrupulous people who try to take advantage of the social situation in the region.
