Peruvian Prime Minister Salvador del Solar on Friday thanked United Nations Development Programme's Goodwill Ambassador Nikolaj Coster-Waldau for his commitment to the Amazon's preservation and gender equality.

"Thanks for your generous commitment to the Amazon's preservation and gender equality, two central issues for our country. Feel always welcome to come back to Peru," the government official stated.

For his part, the actor —best known for starring in HBO's Game of Thrones— indicated it had been an honor and privilege to meet the Cabinet chief.

"Peru is an exceptional country with vast resources, the biggest being its diverse people. Thank You," Coster-Waldau said on Twitter.

On Thursday, the high-ranking official and the UNDP Goodwill Ambassador held a meeting at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers' (PCM) headquarters.

The Danish actor has been working in the rainforest city of Pucallpa for the conservation of the Amazon, native communities, and against climate change.

On Instagram, Coster-Waldau stated a short film from his trip with the UNDP will be released on September 18.

In his role as UNDP Goodwill Ambassador, Coster-Waldau focuses on raising awareness and support for the Global Goals, especially for gender equality and climate action.

The UNDP works in about 170 countries and territories, helping to achieve the eradication of poverty, as well as the reduction of inequalities and exclusion.

The organization helps countries to develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, and institutional capabilities, plus build resilience with the aim of sustaining development results.

As is known, Prime Minister Salvador del Solar is also famous in Latin America for having worked as a top professional actor and filmmaker.
