Peru PM: Referendum to mark a milestone in history

Prime Minister Cesar Villanueva on Thursday affirmed the December 9 referendum will mark a milestone in the Inca country's history since it will embark on a path without corruption or particular interests.

"A reform does not end with any (presidential) administration's term. It begins now, and it is up to you, young people, to continue it," the official told university students.


Within this framework, the cabinet chief indicated these four proposals mark the beginning of a new phase.


"What matters is that you are aware a referendum means the voice of the people," he added. 

Moreover, Villanueva stated that —if successful— a path towards a participatory and democratic politics will have been found. 

Remarks were made during Constitutional Reform in Debate seminar organized by Lima-based San Marcos University.

The Prime Minister was joined by Justice and Human Rights Minister Vicente Zeballos on the occasion.
