Peru PM: New mayors shall prioritize continuity of projects

12:57 | Trujillo (La Libertad region), Nov. 12.

Prime Minister Cesar Villanueva on Monday urged recently-elected mayors to continue developing the unfinished works started by their predecessors, who will leave office at the end of 2018.

According to the high-ranking official, the ongoing projects —which will not be finished by December 31— must be prioritized

Likewise, the official indicated setbacks —such as inefficiency, lack of time or administrative problems— should not hinder work completion.

Furthermore, he pointed out the Executive Branch —if necessary— will allocate funds in order to continue executing the projects

Remarks were made during an induction workshop for the elected authorities in northern La Libertad region.

This meeting was aimed at strengthening regional and municipal officials' skills in key issues with the purpose of starting a new decentralized management.

As is known, citizens went to the polls last October to choose regional and local authorities. On that occasion, Jorge Muñoz was elected new mayor of Lima.
