Peru: PM expresses condolences over Defense Minister's death

Peruvian Prime Minister Salvador del Solar on Monday expressed his solidarity and condolences over the recent death of Defense Minister Jose Huerta.

"Our most heartfelt solidarity with the family of Defense Minister Jose Huerta, a committed member of our cabinet, an outstanding military man, who was dedicated to serving our homeland. Rest in peace, dear Jose," the high-ranking official said via Twitter.

Nuestra más sentida solidaridad con la familia del Ministro de Defensa José Huerta, comprometido integrante de nuestro gabinete, destacado militar y hombre entregado al servicio de nuestra patria. Descansa en paz, apreciado José.

As is known, the 71-year-old Minister died on Monday morning during a visit to the jungle, where he was scheduled to carry out some activities linked to his sector.

He was sworn in on April 2, 2018, by President Martin Vizcarra.
