Peru: PM confirms meeting with Camisea consortium on October 6

10:34 | Arequipa (Arequipa region), Sep. 29.

Prime Minister Guido Bellido has confirmed that a meeting between Government authorities and representatives of the Camisea gas operating consortium will be held on Wednesday, October 6.

"We have extended the invitation. We will hold a first meeting next Wednesday, and all actions will be developed from that moment," he said in remarks to RPP radio and TV station from the city of Arequipa.

The Cabinet chief noted that he respects everybody's opinions regarding the Government's initiative to renegotiate the Camisea gas contract because there is freedom of speech in the country.

"We continue what the Government has established," he pointed out.

Bellido also referred to those who demand his resignation, noting that this is normal because we live in a democracy. He emphasized that they did not even want to recognize President Pedro Castillo as the Head of State.

On Monday, the Government made an official request to renegotiate the contract with the consortium that operates the Camisea gas field in Cusco region.

Bellido, joined by Energy and Mines Minister Ivan Merino, delivered an official letter at the Lima headquarters of Pluspetrol —which is part of the Camisea consortium— with the aim of marking the official start of talks on the distribution of profits in favor of the Peruvian State.
