Peru PM: Call for elections confirms Govt's political will and commitment to country

09:58 | Lima, Jul. 9.

The call for general elections for April 11, 2021 —made on Wednesday by Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra— confirms his political will and commitment to the country, Prime Minister Vicente Zeballos affirmed.

"This (the call) reiterates, in principle, (the fulfillment of) the Government's political will, particularly of the President of the Republic, Martin Vizcarra," he expressed.

Zeballos recalled that the Head of State had repeatedly reaffirmed his decision to organize "democratic elections in accordance with the Constitution but, above all, his commitment to the country."

"The elections (will take place) on April 11 next year, no matter what," the President of the Council of Ministers said on Wednesday in remarks to RPP radio and TV station.

The government official ruled out political calculation behind the call for general elections for the election of President of the Republic, Vice-Presidents, Congress members, and Peruvian representatives at the Andean Parliament.
