The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte invited the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member economies to the summit that will be held in Peru in 2024, highlighting that one of our country's objectives is to position itself as the port and commercial logistics hub of Latin America.

This was stated on Thursday during the closing session of the APEC 2023 Summit taking place in San Francisco, United States, where the Head of State emphasized that Peru has a stable economy which is open to investments.

"Peru has a stable social market economy open to investments, whose development engine rests on the initiative of the private business sector at all levels, from small enterprises to major companies," Mrs. Boluarte expressed.

"I want to underscore that Peru aims to position itself as the port and commercial logistics hub of Latin America and, joined by the private sector, it has been developing large-scale projects," she added.

In this sense, the top official underscored some projects such as the Chancay megaport —the most important port project on the continent that will have the capacity to receive mega ships. Similarly, it will serve to reduce up to 12 days of transit time to reach the Asian market.

Likewise, she mentioned the expansion and enhancement of Jorge Chavez International Airport, which will become a first-class establishment.

Mrs. Boluarte announced that Peru will become a pioneer in "the digitalization of the pre-entry procedure for users of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Travel Card (ABTC), with the aim of expediting the entry to Peru of businesspeople and assessing whether the procedure can be subsequently replicated in the other APEC economies."

Moreover, the dignitary pointed out that Peruvian exports to other APEC economies reached US$42.568 billion in 2022.

From January to September 2023, exports have grown by 3%, leading to a total of US$32.242 billion.

Thus, Mrs. Boluarte stressed that Peru has a natural outreach towards the Asia-Pacific region.

She added that its participation at APEC "has been key to completing 10 bilateral and two regional free trade agreements that allow us to export our products, as well as import inputs, machinery, and technology under competitive conditions."

"Peru is a strategic and reliable partner in the Asia-Pacific region. We have been developing the thematic priorities and initiatives that we will promote at APEC 2024 so as to achieve a balance between the continuity of work at the forum and the discussion on new topics aligned with the (APEC) Putrajaya Vision 2040," she concluded.
