Peru participates in poverty reduction international forum in China

15:05 | Xi'an (China), May. 20.

The Embassy of Peru in China, as well as Regional Governments of Ayacucho and Junin, took part in an international forum on poverty relief in the Chinese city of Xi'an.

Held on May 12, the event took place within the framework of the global integration project the "Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road" developed by the current Chinese Government, one of whose objectives is the development of infrastructure projects to facilitate trade and economic growth.

In his speech, Junin Governor Vladimir Cerron underscored the development guidelines issued by the Regional Association of the Andes, consisting of Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Apurimac, Ica, and Junin regions.

Likewise, he proposed the Chinese Government open its market to Andean products as a strategy to fight poverty.

For his part, Peruvian Ambassador Luis Quesada stressed the progress made by his country in terms of poverty reduction.

He also noted that sustained economic growth and macro-economic stability are accompanied by a policy of redistribution that supports the most vulnerable populations —led by the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion and developed thanks to efforts of regional and local governments.

It must be noted Peru signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China last month within the framework of "The Belt and Road Initiative," which is intended to strengthen the bilateral cooperation in terms of economic growth and sustainable development.
