Peru: Over 3,000 jobs to be created in disaster-stricken Piura

MTPE genera más de 1,000 empleos temporales para población vulnerable de Cajamarca.

11:00 | Piura (Piura region), Apr. 11.

State-run "Trabaja Peru en Emergencia" (Work Peru under Emergency) program will create 3,765 jobs for natural disaster victims from northern Piura region.

Said program is aimed at promoting the development of infrastructure projects in areas affected by heavy rains, landslides and floods.

As is known, the northern region was lashed by the overflowing of Piura River a few weeks ago.

According to Trabaja Peru Head Cesar Galvez, La Arena district is one of the areas that will benefit from this initiative.

"In Piura, we have so far [...] S/6 million [around US$1.84 million] for investment purposes," Galvez affirmed.

"That means the creation of 3,765 jobs for victims," he added.

The official went on to add those positions will serve to execute a total of 64 works and activities.

For instance, there will be activities in La Arena linked to the rehabilitation of roads, as well as to debris-removal operations and drainage of water.

It must be noted these new jobs will mainly favor female citizens.
