Economy and Finance Minister Alex Contreras highlighted that Peru is one of the countries that is receiving the most capital in the region.

It should be pointed out that said capital totaled US$20.7 billion in net terms in the first two quarters of this year.

"Figures have begun to show better results and, in the last eight months, Peru has become one of the countries receiving the most capital, compared to Chile and Colombia, for example," Contreras said in remarks to Punto Final investigative journalism TV program on Sunday night.

The government official explained that said capital reached US$20.7 billion in net terms in the first two quarters, after more than US$20 billion in capital fled the country due to political instability.

"Capital is flowing into the country again. There has been an important announcement regarding mining projects, business confidence is now at its highest level in two years, and contracts worth more than US$1.340 billion have been awarded via Public-Private Partnerships (PPP)," he stated.

Contreras affirmed that economic indicators show an important recovery, noting that this will begin to be reflected in employment levels and higher production.

"It's going to take some time for this to begin to be felt in citizens' daily lives," the minister commented.

"Poverty does not wait for the annual report on GDP; that is why we are working on the recovery of the country and why we launched the Con Punche Peru (Peru with Strength) plan," the Economy-Finance sector's head remarked.
