According to information from the Health Ministry's (Minsa) National Center for Epidemiology, Disease Prevention and Control (CDC), the number of new coronavirus cases has risen over recent weeks nationwide. In fact, this figure climbed from 1,813 during the 14th epidemiological week to 11,177 during the 23rd week.

These figures represented a sustained increase in confirmed cases in Lima Metropolitan Area, as well as a rise in Ancash, Arequipa, Callao, Cusco, Junin, La Libertad, Ica, Lambayeque, Moquegua, Pasco, Piura, and Tacna regions.

Of these regions, those with the highest number of cases were Lima (371), Arequipa (88), Cusco (81), and Ancash (48), considering that adults and older adults account for the highest percentages.

Although Health Minister Jorge Lopez indicated that the fourth wave is expected to be similar to the previous one (in terms of the low percentage of patients requiring hospitalizations or ICU beds), citizens are recommended not to lower their guard, but rather to continue protecting themselves from COVID-19.

Minsa urges the population to continue complying with prevention measures, such as wearing facemasks, washing hands constantly, as well as maintaining social distancing and indoor spaces well ventilated.

In addition, citizens are required to complete the vaccination schedule against COVID-19.
