Peru: Non-traditional exports volume up 10.4% in September 2018

The volume of non-traditional exports grew 10.4% in September 2018 compared to the same month last year, thus marking 23 months of continuous growth, National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) has informed.

According to INEI's Technical Report on Evolution of Exports, the farming sector posted an 11.4% rise, underpinned by greater sales of blueberries (+26.5%), avocados (+1,065.3%), fresh tangerines (+12.8%), and bananas —including Cavendish type— (+14.5%). 

Likewise, the fishery sector registered higher transactions of squid, giant squid, and cuttlefish (+108.1%), as well as shrimp tails with shell (+130.9%). 

Furthermore, non-metallic mining products recorded a favorable result (+7.0%), driven by greater sales of natural calcium phosphate (+43.0%) and glass containers intended for freight transport (+27.1%). 

However, the following sectors posted declines: iron-steel (-25.2%), metal-mechanic (-8.1%), chemical (-6.9%), and textile (-3.7%). 

Total exports 

On the other hand, total exports volume slid 6.9% in September compared to the similar month in 2017. 

Nevertheless, between January and September 2018, real exports increased by 7.3%. 

The top export destinations were China, the United States, Spain, Japan, and South Korea.
