The construction of the New Talara Refinery is in its last stage. To date, the completion rate stands at 91.11%, State-run Petroperu oil company Board Chairman Eduardo Guevara Dodds has affirmed.

This week, Guevara Dodds verified in situ the works being carried out, which strictly comply with the protocols approved and established in the surveillance, prevention, and control plans against COVID-19.

He toured the facilities of the new refinery complex under construction, joined by General Manager Carlos Barrientos and Talara Refinery Project Manager Jorge Almestar, verifying the progress on the 16 cutting-edge processing and auxiliary units, as well as the complementary services.

The construction works resumed gradually and progressively on June 15, after being suspended for three months due to the health emergency —a period in which only the necessary tasks were carried out, always linked to the safety of its facilities and equipment.

Works were restarted in critical areas after hiring up to a maximum of 40% of the total number of employees the project used to rely on before the state of national emergency kicked off last March. They have been strictly complying with the protocols approved and established in the surveillance, prevention, and control plans.

To date, there are more than 7,000 workers at the site, under constant medical surveillance and following biosafety procedures.

Processing units

The Petroperu official specified that the start-up of the processing units will come at the end of November 2021.

Based on projections, the entire start-up process of the 16 units will be achieved in approximately 4 months, until stabilization is achieved.
