The various sectors that make up the Multisector Task Force met Tuesday at the Lima-based National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) to take actions at the three government levels in the face of El Niño phenomenon.
The gathering was led by Ministers Jorge Chavez Cresta (Defense), Alex Contreras (Economy-Finance), and Ana Maria Choquehuanca (Production).
Similarly, it saw the presence of representatives from the Ministries of Agrarian Development-Irrigation and Housing-Construction-Sanitation.
The event was also attended by the chiefs of the National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci); the National Center for Disaster Risk Estimation, Prevention, and Reduction (Cenepred); the National Emergency Operations Center (COEN); the Multisectoral Commission in Charge of the National Study of El Niño Phenomenon (Enfen); the Peruvian Sea Institute (Imarpe); and a representative from the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service (Senamhi).
Earlier today, Economy-Finance Minister Alex Contreras said the Government is not going to spare resources in preparedness to face an El Niño-related emergency, since historically it is known that this has generated a very significant impact in social terms and on loss of infrastructure.
Likewise, Contreras pointed out that this is the administration which has allocated the most resources to response and prevention against El Niño phenomenon.
"To date, the approved budget alone totaled more than S/7 billion (about US$1.901 billion), while more than S/5 billion (US$1.357) of the budget has been implemented in preparedness (...)," the Economy and Finance sector's head said.
