With the support of international cooperation, the Cities in Movement (Cimo) project seeks to strengthen the implementation of the National Urban Transport Policy with a focus on integrated public transport systems in Arequipa, Trujillo (La Libertad), and Piura, the
Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) has reported.
The meeting brought together members of the Executive Branch, as well as elected mayors of Arequipa (Victor Hugo Rivera) and Trujillo (Cesar Fernandez).
The aim was to direct common efforts towards the implementation of sustainable urban transport projects, which are underway in said cities with the support of international cooperation.
At the meeting, the MTC reaffirmed its commitment to the correct planning of cities and continue working in the implementation of sustainable urban transport projects in conjunction with provincial municipalities.
The German Development Cooperation and the Swiss Cooperation – SECO, implemented by
GIZ (an entity that is commissioned by the Republic of Germany to promote international cooperation), provide technical assistance to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, through the
Cities in Movement project with a focus on
integrated public transportation systems in the cities of Arequipa, Trujillo, and Piura.
The MTC states that the Provincial Municipality of Arequipa has the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan financed by the
European Union (EU) and considers the implementation of an electric tram as an option.
For its part, the North-South Main Corridor project in Trujillo will be financed with public funds from external debt operations, and the executing unit will be the MTC.
