The Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem), through the Mining Statistical Bulletin (BEM), reported that important increases were observed in metallic mining production of gold (25.9%), zinc (4.6%), silver (16.6%), lead (15.9%), tin (179.7%), and molybdenum (8.8%) in January 2024, compared to the same month in 2023.

Regarding national gold production, in January 2024, the bulletin —prepared by Minem's Mining Promotion Directorate— indicated a growth of 25.9% over January 2023, mainly due to greater production activity of Boroo Misquichilca and Yanacocha mining companies.

Likewise, national zinc production rose 4.6% in the first month of the year, from January last year, boosted by a positive performance of Shouxin Peru, Nexa Resources Peru, and Volcan.

As for silver production, it recorded an increase of 16.6% compared to the same month the year before, as a result of higher production levels reported by Ares and Chinalco Peru.

With regard to national lead production, a 15.9% rise was reported in January 2024, compared to January 2023, as a result of the good performance of mining companies Buenaventura, Nexa Resources Peru, and Volcan.

The bulletin also indicates that tin production recorded an increase of 179.7% compared to the same month in 2023.

At the company level, Minsur, which operates in Puno, continues to be the only tin producer in the country.
