The Ministry of Culture on Tuesday announced that, starting tomorrow (December 2),
the visitor capacity at the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu —located in the Andean region of Cusco— will be increased to 50%. Thus, up to 1,116 visitors will be allowed per day.
The Ministry of Culture reported that the decision of increasing the visitor capacity was made following reports of positive results and after verifying compliance with biosafety protocols. The measure will come into effect starting tomorrow.
Those wishing to visit the Llaqta (Inca citadel) shall make a reservation and confirm it via email.
The reservation shall be confirmed within 48 hours after receiving the email, for the issuance of the respective admission tickets.
On the other hand, it confirmed that children under 12 years of age will be allowed to the site —accompanied by their parents— starting December 2.
All visitors to Machu Picchu must comply with the biosafety protocols, including hand hygiene, social distancing, and permanent use of face masks.
