Peru: Machu Picchu, destination chosen by personnel on front line against COVID-19

16:47 | Urubamba (Cusco region), Nov. 12.

More than 1,000 workers —who are on the front line in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic such as: doctors, nurses, police, public cleaning staff, municipal police, and others— have already visited Machu Picchu archaeological park and other attractions located in the Incas' Sacred Valley.

"The Gratitude Group," as it is called, departs from the city of Cusco in buses and by train from Ollantaytambo Station.

Each delegation relies on tourist guides, food, and beverages distributed on the way.

On the tour, the workers enjoy days of good weather, as they visit the archaeological parks of Chinchero, Maras, Ollantaytambo, Pisaq, and Machu Picchu. Likewise, they learn about the legacy, history, and importance of pre-Inca and Inca times.

Cusco's Regional Directorate of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Dircetur) organizes the trips supported by private companies such as Peru Rail, Consettur; and public institutions such as the Decentralized Directorate of Culture and the State-run National Service for Natural Protected Areas (Sernanp).

The large delegation of beneficiaries in the economic and tourist reactivation process showed their emotion and thanked the authorities for their generosity.

It must be noted that Dircetur urges them to comply with biosafety protocols in order to avoid COVID-19 contagion.

It is worth mentioning that each attraction offers visitors stations for hand washing and disinfection.
