Peru: Lima province has more than 10,292,000 inhabitants

On the occasion of the 489th foundation anniversary of Lima, a.k.a. the City of Kings, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reported that Lima province, which houses 43 districts, has 10,292,408 inhabitants.

This figure represents 30.2% of the country's total population (34,038,457 inhabitants), according to population projections until June 30 this year.

When sorted by gender, these data showed that 52.3% of the population are women (5,378,751), whereas 47.7% are men (4,913,657).

When segregated by age, women in the group between 15 and 39 years represent 37.6% of the total population, while men account for 36.4%. 

Meanwhile, in adults between 40 and 59 years of age, the female population is equivalent to 27.1% and the male population to 27%.

In the group of those aged 0 to 14, females reach 17.7% and males 19.7%; and in the population aged 60 and over, women and men represented 17.6% and 16.9% respectively.

San Juan de Lurigancho, the most populated district
 
In 2024, the district with the largest population in Lima continues to be San Juan de Lurigancho, with 1,264,060 inhabitants.

It should be noted that 58.5% of Lima's inhabitants are concentrated in ten districts, led by San Juan de Lurigancho (12.3%); followed by San Martin de Porres (7.7%); Ate (7.1%); Comas (5.8%); Villa Maria del Triunfo (4.4%); Carabayllo, and Villa El Salvador (4.3% each); as well as Santiago de Surco, San Juan de Miraflores, and Puente Piedra (4.2% each).

On the contrary, the ten districts with the lowest number of inhabitants in Metropolitan Lima are: Santa Maria del Mar, Punta Negra, San Bartolo, Pucusana, Punta Hermosa, Barranco, Cieneguilla, Santa Rosa, Chaclacayo, and San Luis, which together represent 2.8% of the capital city's population.
