Economy and Finance Minister Maria Antonieta Alva on Tuesday affirmed that a less severe slump in the electricity sector last May reflects the economic recovery in the last week of said month.
"We saw a slight recovery (in the electricity sector) in May because phase 1 of the
economic reopening plan began in said month," she explained.
The minister stated that —in addition to the electricity sector— there are other indicators showing a slight recovery in recent weeks.
"Such indicators are quite interesting and basically respond to the gradual approach to reopening the economy," she stressed.
The Cabinet member noted that one of the indicators is the use of the Metropolitano bus rapid transit system, which has been increasing slowly and steadily since April.
"We have noticed that 82,000 people used the service on May 13, while 120,000 passengers used it on May 31," she said.
Additionally, Alva stressed that traffic on streets across the country has increased in recent weeks, which reflects an economic recovery as well.
