Fuerza Popular’s presidential candidate Keiko Fujimori on Monday afternoon affirmed that she would accept the runoff election results to be announced by the National Election Board (JNE).

"I announce that, in compliance with the commitments I assumed with all Peruvians, with Mario Vargas Llosa and the international community, I am going to recognize the results because it is what the law and the constitution —which I have sworn to defend— mandate," she said at a press conference in the presence of her supporters.

Fujimori affirmed that she has made her view clear "in the face of the imminent and illegitimate proclamation of Pedro Castillo."

Electoral process

As is known, 25,287,954 Peruvians —in the country and abroad— were called to elect a new President of the Republic between candidates Keiko Fujimori and Pedro Castillo in the runoff election on June 6. Whoever wins the election will become President Francisco Sagasti's successor and take office on July 28, 2021.

With 100% of voting records counted by the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), Pedro Castillo (Peru Libre) obtained 50.126% of votes, followed by Keiko Fujimori (Fuerza Popular) with 49.874%.

The presidential runoff election winner is about to be proclaimed by the National Election Board (JNE).
