Peru: Judiciary confirms search warrant, seizure of Luciana Leon's apartment

15:43 | Lima, Nov. 13.

Peru's Judicial Branch on Wednesday confirmed the search and seizure order against former APRA Congresswoman —and current Permanent Commission member— Luciana Leon, who is investigated for her alleged links to the criminal organization 'Los Intocables Ediles' (The Town Council's Untouchables) accused of corruption offenses by local authorities in Lima's La Victoria district.

Inadmissible request

The Judiciary declared her defense team's request inadmissible, which had asked for the search warrant to be declared void, as well as for the return of the seized documents to her home and office.

The resolution states that the rule —which prevents high-ranking public officials from being subject to restrictive measures of law without authorization from the Subcommittee on Constitutional Accusations— was repealed by opposition to the Criminal Code.

In this sense, it indicates that the "current law has been correctly applied to the case submitted to the knowledge."

Therefore, it declares the appeal made by the former legislator unfounded and confirms the orders issued in all its extremes by the Supreme Court of Preparatory Investigation.

About Leon

41-year-old Luciana Leon is the daughter of former Fisheries Minister Romulo Leon, who served during former President Alan Garcia's first term in office.
