The Permanent Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court on Friday ordered pre-trial detention against former Housing Minister Geiner Alvarado —within the framework of the investigation over the alleged felony of (being part of a) criminal organization and others.
Due to the decision made by the Judiciary, the measure of restricted appearance against the former Cabinet member has been upgraded.
In this regard, Peruvian National Police (PNP) Commander General Jorge Angulo reported that a police team was carrying out the corresponding registration after having captured Geiner Alvarado in Lima's La Molina district.
"I have the information (confirming) that his capture was carried out a few moments ago by the National Police," Angulo told Canal N on Friday night.
The former official is being investigated for alleged irregularities at the Ministries of Housing, Transportation-Communications, and the Provías Decentralizado-Puente Tarata case.
On March 9, preparatory investigation judge Juan Carlos Checkley rejected a pre-trial detention request for Geiner Alvarado, saying that Alvarado had shown acceptable behavior during the proceedings. Instead, he issued a restricted appearance measure.
The order included paying a bail worth S/35,000 (about US$9,313), reporting on his activities on the last day every month, not leaving Lima or Callao without authorization from the Preliminary Investigation Supreme Court, and not communicating with co-investigated people or witnesses.
