Peru: Jose Luis Lecaros elected Judicial Branch chairman

14:57 | Lima, Dec. 6.

Peru's Supreme Court of Justice on Thursday elected magistrate Jose Luis Lecaros Cornejo as the new head of the Judicial Branch for the 2019-2020 term.

Lecaros will succeed Victor Prado Saldarriaga, who was elected on 25 July 2018, following the resignation of Duberli Rodriguez.

As is known, Rodriguez relinquished his post after the release of audio recordings that triggered a crisis in the justice system.

The selection process included four candidates and involved the participation of the 18 magistrates comprising the Supreme Court of Justice.

Lecaros has 18 years of experience in the administration of justice. He chaired the Judiciary's Transitory Criminal Chamber.

The brand-new chairman pledged to work efficiently in order to create a more transparent, corruption-free justice system at the service of citizens.
