Peruvian Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) on Wednesday reported that the landing strip at Jorge Chavez International Airport is fully operational.
In a statement, the institution revealed that the temporary closure, which went into effect on Wednesday morning, lasted for about 50 minutes.
The government agency explained that a small plane landed at around 10:50 a.m. (local time) and one of its tires was damaged during the landing.
"The aircraft exited the runway by its own means and, in compliance with the operational safety protocols, the airport's technical staff entered immediately to see whether there were any foreign objects on it," the statement said.
After the technical inspection, the authorities permitted the resumption of normal air operations.
Moreover, the MTC reported that during the temporary closure, four aircraft landed at Pisco Airport and that their takeoff to Lima has been arranged on a priority basis.
