The
Jorge Chavez International Airport expects to welcome between 17 and 18 million passengers in 2022, which means travel will near passenger traffic levels prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Lima Airport Partners (LAP) has reported.
During the activity, he pointed out that the flow of passengers at the country's main airport fell to 7 million in 2020 and 10 million in 2021 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, he mentioned that an increase in passengers is expected in the coming years.
"That is quite in line with what the industry is saying in general, because passenger traffic is also seeing a recovery compared to 2019 levels," the entity's spokesperson remarked.
Pre-pandemic levels
Salmon stated that it is very likely that domestic and international traffic will reach pre-pandemic levels in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
"This is very similar to what is being said by institutions specializing in aeronautical issues and the global tourism sector in general," he said.
Regarding domestic traffic in the country, the expert commented that it has reached 80% of pre-pandemic levels.
For its part, international traffic is currently at 50% of the levels registered in 2019.
