The Peruvian Government has invited the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, to make an official visit to our country.

Peru's Prime Minister Alberto Otarola conveyed this invitation to Canada's International Development Minister Ahmed Hussen, whom he received at the Executive Branch headquarters in Lima.

The invitation is intended for Trudeau to visit Peru prior to his participation in the
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders' Summit to be held in November this year.

At the recent meeting, Otarola also expressed to Hussen Peru's interest in accessing Canada's online visa program (Electronic Travel Authorization or eTA).

Likewise, the Peruvian cabinet chief spoke with the guest about the opportunities offered by Peru to international mining sector investors.

Bilateral relationship

Canada is part of the Chavimochic III project, which is being implemented under the Government-to-Government modality.

This stage is being developed with an investment worth over US$700 million. It is expected to generate more than 100,000 jobs.

The expectations in the field of agro-exports and in management of water resources for irrigation derived from this project account for income amounting to US$1.2 billion per year.

Canada is Peru's third-largest trading partner in the Americas.

In turn, Peru is the fourth-most important destination for Canadian investments and the third-largest beneficiary country of international cooperation provided by Justin Trudeau's Government.
