Peru: International flights resumption to include arrivals from five countries

12:13 | Lima, Sep. 26.

Peru's Defense Minister Jorge Chavez affirmed that the resumption of international flights —starting October 5— includes a first stage of arrivals from Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, and Mexico.

"This process will take place in stages. We are not ruling out one country or another, since the periodic resumption of flights coming from other countries will depend on the evaluations that are being made in terms of health," he commented.

"This is a first requirement, in addition to complying with the established biosafety and social distancing protocols. In the next few days, the Ministry of Transport and Communications will publish the necessary regulations for national and international flights (...)," he indicated.
Regarding the restrictions imposed on children under 14 years of age, the Defense minister said the objective is to safeguard them from any contagion risks.

"These measures are temporary. We are evaluating every measure that will be taken. We know it is difficult for children under 14 years of age to stay at home and only go out to the surrounding areas, but this is in order to protect them and contain the spread of the coronavirus," he stated.

"A month and a half ago, there used to be an average of between 228 and 250 daily deaths. Today, there are two-digit figures; we are talking about between 60 and 90 deceased people per day. The same happens with the use of hospital and ICU beds. However, we must not lower our guard in the face of figures that are definitely encouraging," he expressed.

Chavez stressed that the decrease is due to the responsibility and constant participation of the population.
