Economy and Finance Minister Alex Contreras noted that the consumer price index has started to moderate and that annualized inflation will drop more than one percentage point in June.

"Inflation has started to moderate and is expected to experience a more marked drop in June," Contreras remarked.

"We project that annualized inflation will fall from 7.9% to 6.7%," he added.

The Economy-Finance sector's head explained that this drop was caused by weak upward pressure on prices of food products.

Moreover, the minister affirmed that, according to estimates, the price of chicken will decrease from S/7.87 (around US$2.16) to S/5.28 (around US$1.45) per Kg in June, while that of potatoes will decline to S/0.80 (around US$0.22) per kg.

Contreras made the remarks during the presentation of the project, called "New Industrial Park in Ancon, the new infrastructure for Productive Diversification," organized by Peru's Private Investment Promotion Agency (ProInversion).
