Peru: Indian tourist influx to increase in 2019

13:21 | Lima, Mar. 25.

Indian tourist influx to Peru will have increased 20% by the end of 2019, Embassy of Peru in India's Commercial Office Tourism Advisor Aromica Bhattacharya has projected.

According to the official, some 10,000 sightseers from the Asian nation arrived in the Inca country in 2018, mainly to visit Machu Picchu in Cusco region.

"Despite the sustainable growth registered in the last four years, the work is hard, and the goal is to increase the number of Indian visitors to Peru," Bhattacharya expressed.

A delegation of tourism operators —joined by the advisor— currently visit Peru for the first time and will have the opportunity to arrive in the cities of Chiclayo, Trujillo, and Cusco, as well as the Sacred Valley and the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.

The Indian operators will conclude their trip with a workshop on April 1 and will also hold meetings with their counterparts from the Domestic and Foreign Tour Operators Association (Apotur)

Likewise, tourism operators have shown interest in visiting Peru and increasing the influx to the Inca country, she said.

Furthermore, Bhattacharya indicated the travel agency's representatives are top-level and come from various regions of India.

"I believe that the results of the efforts undertaken by the private sector, aimed at promoting Peru as a great tourist destination, will be seen in a year," Apotur Head Heddy Espinoza said.
