Peru hopes to keep winning ways going in friendly against U.S.

19:05 | Connecticut (U.S.), Oct. 15.

The Peruvian national soccer team is hoping to stay on the winning track when it takes on the United States this week in a friendly.

Peru and Team USA will meet on Tuesday, just four days after coach Ricardo Gareca's squad blew out South American champion Chile 3-0 in a friendly in Miami.

Gareca hopes to keep Peru winning as it prepares for the 2019 Copa America in Brazil.

"The team did a good job against Chile and I'm convinced that we stay on the same path," Gareca said ahead of the match against Team USA. "It's going to be a good match with two teams that are going to fight to win without sparing any effort on the field."

The U.S. team, meanwhile, is reeling after being handed a 4-2 loss by Colombia on Oct. 11 and is led by an interim coach, Dave Sarachan.

The Americans are hoping to salvage their image by playing well against Peru.

"You can scout teams, you can watch teams, you can talk about moments that might come in the game, but now you're stepping on the field (against Colombia) and having to make decisions, and to do things quickly," Sarachan said following the loss.

The U.S. coach said not having midfielder Christian Pulisic, who plays for Germany's Borussia Dortmund, in action against Colombia hurt the team.

Peru and the United States will play on Tuesday night at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Connecticut.
