Interior Minister Vicente Romero on Tuesday affirmed that the Government is working in cooperation with all sectors to address the migratory crisis that is affecting Tacna and other border regions in Peru.

The minister underscored that this is a concern of the President of the Republic Dina Boluarte and Prime Minister Alberto Otarola, and is centered on security and humanitarian issues.

Likewise, the Interior sector's head highlighted the work done by Foreign Affairs Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi along with countries in order to provide support to foreign nationals wishing to return to their home countries.

"We have been informed that there are about 5,000 Venezuelan nationals interested in leaving the country. So, the Government is working on it. Working together with all sectors authorities is a concern from President Dina Boluarte and the Prime Minister," Romero told TVPeru.

The government official made these remarks during his visit to the northern region of Tumbes, where he arrived to monitor the situation at the border with Ecuador.

The Cabinet member stated that, according to estimates, more than 211,000 foreigners entered the country through said crossing point between 2018 and 2023. Therefore, measures must be strengthened there, as well as in Tacna (region) —southern Peru.

On the other hand, regarding citizen security, Romero noted that the strategies proposed by the National Citizen Security Council (Conasec) a few weeks ago are already yielding results.

Thus, important operations have been conducted against organized crime gangs. "This is a progressive issue that is under development," he underlined.
