At least S/4.00 billion (about US$1.23 billion) will be invested in water and sanitation works nationwide in 2018, Peru's Housing, Construction, and Sanitation Minister Carlos Bruce announced Wednesday.

Such purpose is to make progress towards meeting the coverage targets planned thru 2021.

Bruce noted the Executive Branch's objective is to provide drinking water coverage in urban (100%) and rural areas (85%). Currently, the coverage stands at 94.5% and 79%, respectively.

"This year over S/4.00 billion (about US$1.23 billion) will be invested in water and drainage works, which is a highly important investment," the minister expressed.

"[…] This way, we will make progress in terms of the goals we have set," he added.
