The Executive Branch, through the
Peruvian Ministry of Interior (MININTER), has terminated the appointments of regional prefects throughout the country.
In this regard, the Government has accepted the resignations and terminated the appointments of regional prefects of Ancash, La Libertad, Apurimac, Ucayali, Tacna, Arequipa, Lima, Junin, and Huanuco.
The list also includes regional prefects of Madre de Dios, Cusco, Callao, San Martin, Huancavelica, Pasco, Loreto, Cajamarca, Tumbes, Lambayeque, Puno, Ayacucho, Amazonas, Lima Provinces, and Ica.
In the recitals, the resolution indicates that, according to Article 161 of the Consolidated Text of the Regulation on the Organization and Functions of the Ministry of Interior, regional prefects shall be appointed by supreme resolution endorsed by the (Interior) minister at the proposal of the Deputy Ministry of Internal Order.
In addition, at the proposal of the General Directorate for Interior Government, it was considered convenient to accept the tendered resignations, as well as to terminate the appointment of the servers who were appointed to the position of regional prefect in all the regions at the national level.
Similarly, it provides that such decision is in accordance with the provisions of the Organic Law of the Executive Branch, as well as the Law that regulates the participation of the Executive Branch in the appointment and designation of public officials.
In addition, the decision is in conformity with Legislative Decree No. 1266 - Law on Organization and Functions of the Ministry of Interior, as well as the Consolidated Text of the Regulation on the Organization and Functions of the Ministry of Interior.
The resolution has been endorsed by the President of the Republic Dina Boluarte and Interior Minister Cesar Cervantes.
