Peru: Gov't seeks to unlock projects worth over US$21 billion

11:54 | Lima, Mar. 26.

Environment Minister Juan Carlos Castro on Tuesday reported that the Government plans to unlock public and private sector projects worth more than US$21 billion to revive the economy.

According to the government official, various regulations regarding this objective were addressed during the session of the Council of Ministers on Monday.

Besides, when asked about the political situation in the Executive Branch, he said the Cabinet led by Gustavo Adrianzen is "more united than ever."

"The message delivered by our President (Dina Boluarte) is that we should move forward towards the economic recovery and security in the country," the minister told TV Peru.

"Yesterday we discussed many regulations that will reactivate the economy. We are going to unlock US$21.7 billion that are currently tied up in public and private projects. Minam is currently regulating the paperwork to reduce it, so that these projects can be unlocked," Castro added.

Likewise, he stated that this year is key for the country's economic recovery; otherwise, 2025 will be "a complicated year."

"So it is important that national, local, and regional governments be united and work together. Moreover, distractions must be avoided, there are instances where they will be responded to, but our concern is about what we have to do in our country in economic matters: we have to revive it," the Cabinet member pointed out.
