The Peruvian Government on Thursday underscored the legacy and the permanent presence of Afro-descendant citizens in the construction of our homeland and in the enrichment of cultural diversity.

Via its official social media channels, the Executive Branch issued a message on the International Day for People of African Descent.

"Today, we highlight the legacy and the permanent presence of Afro-descendants in the construction of our homeland and in the enrichment of our cultural diversity," the Presidential Office expressed via social media.

"From the Government, we promote public policies to ensure the full exercise of their rights," it added.

In 2020, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the resolution for the International Day for People of African Descent, establishing August 31 of every year as the date of commemoration.

This celebration is in line with the global and regional consensus on the need to boost the promotion and protection of all human rights and fundamental liberties of Afro-descendants.
